Don't Get a Pet Raccoon if You Want To Be Miserable

If you are looking for "your" pet, but for some reason cats and dogs seem commonplace banality, and guinea pigs and hamsters child's play, Don't get a pet raccoon if you want to be miserable I strongly recommend to pay attention to such exotic as raccoons.

Of course, every sandpiper praises his own swamp. Cat owners sing nightingales about the charming insolence of purrs. Dog breeders talk about unbelievable loyalty and friendship of biting creatures. But very few people talk about raccoons in our region. The reason for this injustice is that the charming weasels with masks and striped tails are still rare. At least in our region.

I'm not going to advertise and PR for raccoons. Their nature cannot be understood by a frontal barrage of information. A raccoon can only be felt. It is for this simple reason that I have decided to tell some real life stories of pet raccoons and their owners.

Pet raccoon: Rinse and rinse as much as you like

Alexander is 25 years old and loves funny and out-of-the-box jokes. On the eve of his relatives' arrival from Canada, he asked them to bring his pet, a three-year-old raccoon with a beautiful mask and a fluffy fluffy striped tail.

The Canadian relatives were warmly welcomed. Rubbing their hearts into the raccoon named Beevas, Alexander presented the pet with a huge portion of hazelnuts and dried fruit. At the end of his meal Bivas was no longer afraid of the generous stranger and delicacies from his friendly hands.

Studying the stranger, this weasel in a mask even climbed up on Alexander's shoulders on one arm and got off the "curious object" on the other, tickling his face with his huge tail at the same time. The striped tail was really big, about 35 centimeters, with a body length of 30 (cm).

Alexander asked the Canadians to show him how Bivas rinses. For the purposes of the experiment, a sweater was removed and sent into a bowl full of water. The "rinsing procedures" took place in the kitchen. The raccoon was so engrossed in his work that he even stopped responding to his owners. His tiny little hands expertly tore through the folds of the sweater and thoroughly rinsed them.

Guests were invited to organize their lives in the summer house. The raccoon, of course, remained in the kitchen to rinse. Alexander went into the bathroom as he went and turned on the washing machine, which was preloaded with things. The light in the bathroom was left on, and the door there was open. While Alexander was showing his guests around their apartment, his mother suddenly came in.

As she waited to see her beloved in-laws, she entered the house and went to the sound of the typewriter running. The lights were on, the door was open, but no one was in the bathroom. And then she caught a glimpse of someone rinsing in the kitchen. Once inside, she froze in a daze. Some enormous creature was at work over a sweater soaked in the basin.

Beevas gave the 50-year-old woman an impudent look as she stared at him with her large eyes. The raccoon turned away as if nothing had happened, and continued enthusiastically going over the soaked clothes with his masterful fingers.

Suddenly Alexander came into the kitchen and asked: "How did I find a helper for you? He does the laundry, he cleans, and he goes to the store.

After such substantial acquaintance with a raccoon, Alexander's mother willingly agreed to get a striped raccoon. From the arrival of the relatives 4 years passed, Alexander's family replenished with one raccoon-male, one raccoon-dog and 3 kids from their marriage. By the way, the little babies have already been ordered for "adoption" by close friends and acquaintances.

 Pet Raccoon: Child Simulator

A young and childless couple at the time (Maria and Oleg) dared to get a pet. They wanted something unusual and unfamiliar. They chose a raccoon-crawler. Young people learned about these creatures from their friends, who had a very big, cheeky and cunning raccoon in their house.

One phone call to the regional cattery and the most adorable little guy, who was brought into this world by no less adorable mother raccoon, was booked. Maria was invited to her first meeting with the little one. It was a preliminary checkup with a feeding. As it turned out, it took 3-4 meetings to pick up the raccoon, during which the nursery staff gave basic lessons on feeding and caring for the tiny creature.

Taking the miracle baby in one hand and the pipette with the formula in the other, Maria came into direct contact with this miracle of nature. Even though it was a baby raccoon, a woman's maternal nature took its toll. The feeling of affection, love and care fully and completely seized Maria. The warm lump of fur suddenly grabbed her little finger and began to eat her milk. That moment of feeding revealed to Mary something unknown before, something fundamental, something that is not spoken about, something that is clear without words..

Three years have passed since then. Maria and Oleg's family got a new cute raccoon, which they nicknamed Umka, and also a couple of human babies (Vika and Sasha). Maria says she has three children, Vika, Sasha and Umka.

 Pet Raccoon: Two final words

  • It should be noted that wild raccoons are involuntarily attracted to populated areas, closer to humans. That is, raccoons have a natural predisposition to socialization.
  • If to take a wild ferret or a wild mink, these animals will avoid everything that is connected to the man.
  • In Latin, a raccoon is pronounced "procyon." It is "pre-dog", that is, going before the dog. And indeed, having developed hands, resembling the little hands of a baby, the raccoon is capable of truly virtuosic things.
  • These animals are adept at opening jars of cork.
  • They can hold human household items in their hands (a raccoon is known to be able to wield a broom). Raccoons are excellent tree climbers (they can move head down, coming down from a tree).
  • Believe me, you are never bored with a raccoon. These creatures are very interesting to watch.
  • If the raccoon is competently domesticated, it will allow you to join its fun games. Let a raccoon into your life, he will make it more diverse.
  • This is a real adventure, which may be so lacking in your daily routine.
